Having a great looking lawn is more than just more than just mowing it. Cullins Service has a formula that will work your lawn and get it growing green, healthy and crab grass free. We don’t want to give away all the secrets, but it involves cutting the grass, thatching w/ our classen seeder which I turned into a turf rake which you can see here. After the thatching we have to clean up all the thatch. Going over it with a mower should pick it right up. Then aerating with our ryan aerator. Coring the lawn with an aerator will relieve the compaction of the soil which can block the grass roots from getting the proper nutrition. It also allows water, air and nutrients to reach the roots of the grass. Not everyone who wants a great lawn knows about aeration, but it is important.

So after perforating holes in your lawn let’s put some fertilizer and seed at the same time. Aerating should be done twice a year in the spring and the fall, but fertilizing should be done at least four times. There is more to it than just throwing fertilizer down some lawns need different types or more of one nutrient than others. Then there is hydro fertilizer or dry fertilizer, and we offer both. With seeding you can pretty much throw seed down whenever although there are better times when you should. We like to put seed down after we aerate and the times we fertilize giving the seed a better chance at surviving. With seeding you get better results when at least 3/4 of the seed is in contact w/ the soil.

So as I said there is more to it, and it’s not that simple of a process. If done right you will have an enviable lawn. Hope you enjoyed this bit of knowledge, and if your in the Newton ma, area looking for a great lawn give us a call 617-446-1382.
