In business and life you should always protect your investments. In a  landscaping business your equipment in an investment. So that means you have to take care of them. When you get a new or used piece of equipment you should study or at least look at the owner’s manual. There is a maintenance section of that manual, and in that section is a time table for oil change maintenance. Oil changes are very important in all engines so change your oil. You need to check your oil after every use. Over time heat breaks down oil and the longer it’s in the engine the dirtier it gets. Depending on mowing conditions your mower is kicking up dust, dirt and debris this will make the oil dirtier and less effective sooner. When this happens the oil no longer lubricates the engine components.

The Mower we are giving an oil change to today is a 2015 36 inch Wright Stander Intensity. The techniques I will show you can apply to other similar mowers.

Between the first 5-10 hours of your engines life you should change the oil and oil filter.
With new engines changing the oil within the fist hours of operation is needed to flush out small particles that build up during the break-in period. Check your manual for regularly scheduled oil changes. They will vary from source and the conditions you put you mower through.
It’s best to check your oil regularly.
When you first pour the oil into the engine it’s a gold or amber color. Eventually heat, dirt and air in the crankcase will make the oil darker and less effective in lubricating engine components.
Check your oil and if it’s low or getting dark and nasty add oil or change it.
