Today Cullins Service is in Brookline, Ma. We have been working on this property for a little over a year, and have almost completely redone the whole property. The client is great and likes to work alongside us at times.

When we first came to this property the bushes were kinda out of control, but we have since tamed them down. These bushes seem to have rubbed our client the wrong way because every time we showed up for landscaping services she wanted them cut shorter until she decided to just remove them alltogether.

No problem Cullins Service can handle that. So with that we cut them down and removed the root system. Cant have roots were your going to plant.

First thing we had to do is match up the bushes to the rest of the hedge. We wanted a uniform look all the way around. We were lucky with these as they were a pretty common hedge,  a Nantucket Privet hedge.

Now we have to line up a straight line and space the bushes so they look good.  They will grow in and come together to form a hedge so you don’t want them to far apart. You also don’t want them too close because the roots need space to grow. About a foot and 1/2 to 2 feet is good. Make sure you plant them correctly and give them plenty of water so they can establish themselves. So far I have not lost any flowers or bushes that I have planted, and I’m not planning on loosing any.  We had organic loam, fertilizer, peat moss and much to properly plant these bushes.

With all the bushes in place in the ground we made a well around the roots to keep water in then we put more fertilizer down and covered all around the top w/ peat moss. Now to finish the project we covered the row of Nantucket privet bushes with about 3 inches of mulch. Not only is it decorative and make the property look nice. There are also a few practical reasons for this as well. The mulch will hold water better to keep the bushes roots wet of moist on hot days. Especially when they are first planted they need all the water they can get. Mulch also keeps away weeds, and breaks down into the soil to create a compost that turns into food for the bush.

Finally we installed drip irrigation around the bushes to keep them watered. So the client can just enjoy the new bushes and not have to worry about them drying out. We had fun on this job and we are and so is the client very pleased with the results.

This was a spring cleaning w/ edging and mulching from a great customer we did leaf removal for last fall. We removed leaves from a wooded area in the back and pine needles from all over the yard. Anyone who has tried to remove pine needles knows it’s not easy, but the results turned out great. That is what this job is all about. We cleaned out all the beds and under the bushes.

After the spring cleaning we edged the bush, border and flower beds. I like edging it really defines the beds, it looks great, holds the mulch in and prevents weeds from creeping into the beds. The black mulch looks great in contrast to the green bushes and bright colors of the flowering bushes on this property. Mulching always looks good and you can’t go wrong w/ black. Other colors of mulch are good, but you have to visualize the mulch colors and the surrounding colors. Anyway I was happy w/ the results of this landscaping adventure and so was the client.
